Clara J. Miles

Clara J. Miles, 88, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Lourde’s Hospital, Binghamton, NY, while surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Miles was born in Cincinnatus on May 1, 1922, a daughter of the late Clair and Julia Bennett Hilsinger. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a 50 plus year member of the First Baptist Church of Cincinnatus. She was also a member of the Cincinnatus American Legion Auxiliary and worked at Crescent Corsett in Cincinnatus for a number of years. In her younger years, she worked at the Brick Department Store, Cincinnatus during the holiday times. In her sparetime, she enjoyed bowling with her husband, Carroll Miles, who predeceased her in 1992.

She is survived by her daughters, Diane (Donald) Wells of Newark Valley, and Cynthia (Ronald) Kotas of Cincinnatus. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Christopher (Kimberly) Wells, Jeffrey Wells, Jason Kotas, Gary (Michelle) Kotas, Nicole VanDerhoff, Amy (William) Duda, and Annette (Joshua) Gregory; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Joan Cobb of Liverpool; two brothers, James (Nancy) Hilsinger of Liverpool and Lowell Hilsinger of California; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by two sisters, Pauline Trimm and Wilma Hilsinger; and a brother, Herbert “Bill” Hilsinger.

Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY on Thursday, July 29, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. with her pastor, Reverend David Perrott officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer. There will be no prior calling hours. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Miles may be directed to the American Cancer Society, Central NY Region, P.O. Box 7, E. Syracuse, NY 13057.
