Anthony L. Brown

November 15, 1943 — June 19, 2016

Anthony L. Brown, 72, of Norwich, NY, and formerly of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2016, at his home, while surrounded by his loving family.

Anthony was born in Pitcher, NY, on November 15, 1943, a son of the late Earl Henry and Verna Doupe Brown.  He was a former member of the American Legion Post #189, Norwich, and a former member of the VFW Post #2782, Norwich.  He worked several construction jobs throughout his life, including working for F.G. Compagni Construction Co., Cortland; the Chenango County Highway Department; and the Town of Norwich.  Anthony was an avid NY Yankees fan who enjoyed western dancing, coon hunting, and pulling ponies.

He is survived by his children, Leisa (Ronald) Singleton of Norwich, Wayne (Chris) Brown, of Norwich, Thomas (Dawn) Brown of Bluffton, SC, and Kim (Timothy Burrell) Wales of Norwich.  He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Danielle (Matthew) Smith, Jason (Vanessa Talbot) Shaver, Bradley Shaver, Jennifer (Ike) Spencer, Elizabeth (Arthur) Hilton, Chad Brown, Amanda Brown, Michael Bohrer, Seth Brown, Josh Wales, Christina Wales, and Alexis Crandall; his brothers, David Brown of Cortland and Ronnie Brown of S. Otselic; a brother-in-law, William Tei of Cincinnatus; a sister-in-law, Virginia Brown of S. Plymouth; his former wife, Jeanette Richer of Norwich; 21 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and close friends, Jimmy Jenkins, Phil Greeley, Richard Beckwith, Richard and Sharon Riehl.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Jane White, Cathy Tei, Clifford, Robert, Mark, Rodney, and George Brown, and the love of his life for 33 years, Bessie Brown.

Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Friday, June 24, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Andy Smith officiating.  Burial will be in Wayside Rest Cemetery, Pharsalia.  The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Anthony may be directed to the Norwich Fire Department, 31 E. Main St., Norwich, NY 13815 or to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St., Norwich, NY 13815.
