Barbara W.
Richer
Jan 21, 1931 — Jul 20, 2026
Jacksonville, FL
Barbara W. Richer passed away peacefully in Jacksonville, FL on Monday, July 20, 2026 at the age of 95.
Barbara and her late husband, Harley Richer, Jr., resided in South Otselic for many years and raised their family of three children there. She is survived by two daughters, Karen Smith who resides in St. Thomas, VI and Kathleen MacLean of St. Augustine, FL. and remembering their oldest son, David Harley Richer. Her legacy will live on through 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren whom she loved dearly.
She was next to the youngest of 10 children and was the last surviving sibling. Her Mom and Dad, Elmer and Cora Whorrall lived in Baldwinsville, NY, at that time and Barbara is survived by many dear nieces and nephews still in and around that area.
Barbara worked at Gladding Corporation in South Otselic as head of the Shipping Dept. for years and later went to Paul MItchell School of Cosmetology in Syracuse and became a beautician and had a thriving little business in a salon in their home. Many of her friends still reside in and around the Otselic Valley.
She and Harley moved to Greer, SC in the early 80's and eventually retired there. She loved to travel and garden and was a 'creative' woman that could do just about anything she put her hands to. She made every holiday a special celebration, especially Christmas. She loved to dance and was in a bowling league where they made lifelong friends.
She attended El Bethel Church right across the street from their home and surrendered her heart to Jesus there and was baptized. El Bethel became her spiritual family whom she loved dearly and was deeply loved in returned.
She lived a full and rich life and will be missed. Until we meet again.
There will be a graveside gathering at the Valley View Cemetery in South Otselic on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. with Jeanne Angell officiating and is open to family and friends with a Celebration of Life gathering following the graveside service. There will be no prior calling hours or funeral services.
