Barbara A. Standish, 77, of Willet, NY, passed away at her home on Sunday, November 21, 2010, while surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Standish was born in Chittenango, NY on June 19, 1933, a daughter of the late Gifford and Marium DeValle Briggs. A longtime resident of the area, she was a member of the Willet Methodist Church where she taught the MYF group for three years. She was a former member of the Town of Willet Planning Board and was a previous factory worker for several companies in the area. She, along with her husband, Roger, served as foster parents for Elmcrest and together owned and operated the Willet Cafe. They also built and operated the Rocky Acres and Riverside Estate trailer parks.
She is survived by her children, Patricia (Lauren) Houghton of Lisle, Kathy (Loyd Shepard) of Marathon, Craig (Margaret) Standish of Willet, Terry (Jewel) Standish of LaGrange, GA, Cindy (Bill Wheeler) Standish of Missoula, MT, Linda (Ray) Billings of Willet, and Roger (Bonnie) Standish of Willet. She also leaves behind 26 grandchildren, including a special granddaughter, Kim Standish, of Willet; 36 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter; her brothers, Richard (Vi) Briggs of Brewerton and Thomas (Sharon) May of Blairsville, GA; and many extended family members.
She was predeceased by her husband, Roger F. Standish, on May 24, 2000; a son, Gary Standish and a brother, Doug Briggs.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 26, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY with Reverend Russell Ward officiating. Burial will be in Willet Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, prior to the service, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
