Bruce W. Peterson, Jr.

On February 13, 2023, Bruce W. Peterson, Jr. of McDonough, aged 45, left the shores of this life too soon, probably in search of a twelve-pound large-mouth bass or a twelve-point buck. An avid hunter and fisherman, Bruce loved to tell stories of the ones that got away. He enjoyed many peaceful hours chasing after that monster buck or the largest catch of the day. When he wasn’t hunting or fishing, he enjoyed the freedom of riding his motorcycle across central New York. Always, he was on a quest to buy another new toy. Born on February 20, 1977, in Norwich, Bruce was the only son, the youngest of three; and clearly, the most curious, because he was always tearing things apart just to see what made them tick, or because he needed a spring, or a gear, for his latest invention. His tinkering, inquisitive, and creative nature, made him a great boy scout, and fun to be around, especially when he was stirring up trouble with his best friend, Kevin Morley.

Bruce graduated from Oxford Academy in 1996 and later attended classes at Broome Community College in mechanical engineering. He worked for Norwich Pharmaceuticals for several years. Most recently, he was a long-standing member of the Quality Control team at Professional Teleconcepts, LLC in Norwich.

His laughter, quirky humor, and his giant bear hugs will be greatly missed, especially by those who loved him most. Bruce is survived by his only son, Brian A. Peterson and fiancé, Kiara Whaley; his father, Bruce, Sr. of McDonough; sister, Lisa (Gary) Busby of Clayton; sister, Lenora (Willy) Farrow of McDonough; nieces and nephews: Rachael (Anthony) Ryan, Brittany Tewksbury, Chelsea (Garrett) Jones; Will (Holly) Farrow, Kristy Farrow, Joseph (Amber) Farrow, Jacob Farrow; several great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts and uncles. He is predeceased by his mother, Joanne M. Howe Peterson, who died in 2009. Regrettably, Bruce will not enjoy the opportunity to meet his granddaughter-yet-to-arrive, Aurora Myka Lee Peterson, who is due to enter our lives this April.

Final arrangements are entrusted to K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, 5736 Telephone Road Ext. in Cincinnatus. Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 17 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a service immediately following at 3:00 p.m. with The Reverend Steve White officiating. Burial in Westview Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or the Burn Foundation of Central New York in Bruce’s memory.
