Burt G. Kinney

Burt G. Kinney, 88, of Greene, NY, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, NY, while surrounded by his family.

Born in the Town of Pitcher, NY, on December 16, 1931, Burt was the son of the late Bennie and Grace Brown Kinney.  For most all of his life he owned his own farm and also drove school bus for Greene Central School for over 30 years.  He served as the former assistant superintendent for the Town of Greene and worked for the Town of Smithville for over 10 years and was also a livestock hauler for more than 20 years.  Burt was an award-winning breeder of Blue Tick and Walker coon dogs and was an avid hunter who especially enjoyed coon hunting and deer hunting with his sons, grandsons, and friends at the deer camp.  He also loved all animals but especially horses, cows, pigs, chickens, and dogs.

He is survived by his children, Bruce (Jenn) Kinney of Greene, Brent (Annalisa) Kinney of Clifton Park, and Joy (Dana) Ketcham of Greene.  He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Brock, BethAnn, Bennie, Bryanna, Burt, Billie, Morgan, Madison (Zach), Dylan, Trevor, and Kasey; and a great-grandson, Paxton; a brother, Silas Kinney of Colorado; a sister-in-law, Nina Kinney of Smithville; the mother of his children, Ruth Kinney of Greene; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including special friends, Gary and Carol, Darren and Kathy, Joe and Nadine, John and Betty, Doug and Collette, Dave and Kandi, Linda,  Nina, Mike Z. and all of his caregivers during the last few years of his illness.

In addition to his parents he was predeceased by sons, Joey, Jimmy, and Bryon Kinney; three sisters; and one brother.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service.  A graveside service will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Smithville, on Saturday, May 2, 2020, at 10:00 a.m.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Burt may be directed to the Greene Wrestling Club, 5085 State Highway 41, Greene, NY 13778; Chenango County/Cornell Cooperative Extension Livestock Programs, 4-H Division, 99 North Broad Street, Norwich, NY 13815; Greene Rod and Gun Club, P.O.
