Charles M. Loomis, 73, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2008, while surrounded by his family, at Cortland Regional Medical Center.

Chuck was born in Hamilton, NY on December 23, 1934, a son of the late James and Helen Morton Loomis. A longtime resident of this area, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served as a paratrooper during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Cincinnatus and McDonough American Legion Posts. He was also a member of the Cincinnatus Fire Department and Fire Police and was the first recipient of the Fireman of the Year Award in 1977. Chuck enjoyed doing puzzles, NASCAR, fishing, watching the many different birds, and his favorite television show, Little House on the Prairie.

He is survived by his children, Jody (Robert Tefft) Blanchard of Cincinnatus, Charles Loomis of Pitcher, and Sandy Mabe of Indianola, WA. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Alan, Brienna, Cameron, and Devin Blanchard; Kyle Loomis; and Sammy and Samantha Mabe; his great-grandchildren, Arianna and Gavin Blanchard; a brother, Don Loomis of Altamont Springs, FL; a sister, Donna Stockbridge of Waterville, NY and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Mary Horton, and a brother, James Loomis.

The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Chuck may be directed to the Cincinnatus Fire Police, c/o Lucian Clark, 197 Town Hall Rd., Pitcher, NY 13136.
