Dana E. Guernsey

Dana E. Guernsey, born on December 26, 1952, in Cortland, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the age of 72, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication. Dana was the son of the late J.E. and Shirley Pendergrast Guernsey.

Dana dedicated nearly five decades to the construction industry as the owner and operator of Hemlock Homes, having established the company in 1976. His commitment to quality building and community service was evident in his many contributions throughout his career.

Dana was a valued member of the Solon Sportsman Club and the Blodgett Mills Sportsman Club, where he enjoyed sharing his passion for the outdoors. He was also a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, showing his dedication to service and camaraderie. His love for adventure was reflected in his enjoyment of riding snowmobiles, which brought him joy and excitement.

He will be deeply missed by his family, which includes his son, Jared Guernsey and his partner Elizabeth Reif from Cincinnatus; his daughter, Andrea Guernsey from Tully; and his beloved grandchildren, Peyton and Grace Guernsey. He also is survived by his step-grandchild, Alynia Rief, his fiancée Mary Jo Maricle of Cortland, and his favorite aunt, Rita Guernsey of Cortland; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Dana was also preceded in death by his sister, Billie Jean "Chickie" French.

The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Monday, December 22, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Memorial services will be held at the conclusion of visitation at 2:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Dana may be directed to the Solon Sportsman Club, 4475 Sportsman Club Road, Cincinnatus, NY 13040.

Dana E. Guernsey’s spirit will live on through the many lives he touched and the memories he created. His contributions to his community and the love he shared with his family and friends will always be remembered.
