Donald E. Whitney

Donald E. Whitney, 58, of Greene, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 7, 2022, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, NY.

Born in Hancock, NY, on June 18, 1964, Don was the son of the late Gail and Joyce (Slater) Whitney.  He had been employed as an HVAC technician for Intertek in Cortland for over 30 years.  In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time outdoors either hunting, fishing, or gardening.  He also enjoyed taxidermy and creating artwork through drawings or paintings.  Never wanting to travel very far, he enjoyed being at home with his family and was known as a “Jack of All Trades.”

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Martha (Strough) Whitney; and his children, Danielle of Windsor, Renee of Greene, Erica of S. New Berlin, Hayden of Norwich, and Garrett of Greene.  He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Christiann Hollenbeck, Sawyer and Gemma Brown, Atticus, Landon and Ryland Leech; siblings, Debra (Georgia Foster) Whitney of Marathon, Stanley (Mary) Whitney of E. Freetown, Lisa (Rick) Nauseef of McGraw, and Crystal (Wade) Woodard of E. Freetown; an uncle, Frank Slater of PA; and several other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Thursday, August 11, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  There will be no formal funeral service.  A graveside service will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Cortland, NY, on Thursday at 11:45 a.m.
