Dorathea L. Drake

Dorathea L. Drake, 94, formerly of South Otselic, NY, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, April 7, 2019, at Bethany Manor, Horseheads, NY.

Mrs. Drake was born on Inwood, Long Island, NY, of August 29, 1924, the daughter of the late Asher Flint IV and Stella Ivy Playford Flint.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of South Otselic.  She attended Baptist Bible Seminary and, prior to her retirement, served as a secretary for Baptist Bible College.  She also served as a church secretary and a woman’s speaker at several different churches.  A devoted pastor’s wife, she was married to Reverend Floyd Drake who predeceased her in 2008.  She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, and always had strong words of encouragement for anyone she met.  In her spare time, she enjoyed singing, needle point, bird watching, and spending time at the ocean.

She is survived by her children, F. Donald (Susan) Drake, Jr. of Aledo, TX, Reginald T. Drake of Clark Summit, PA, and Alyce Fitch of Elmira.  She also leaves behind her grandchildren, F. Donald Drake III, David A. Drake, Daniel J. Drake, Jennifer Smith, Sara Drake, and Jeremy Drake; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, David; brothers, Asher Flint V and Richard Flint; and a sister, Margaret VanSciver.

The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held on Friday. April 12, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of South Otselic with Reverend Jim Moore, Reverend Daniel Drake, and Reverend Duane Smith officiating.  Burial will be in Marathon Cemetery.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Drake may be sent to the First Baptist Church of South Otselic, 130 Co. Rd. 13, S. Otselic, NY 13155.
