Ernest "Corky" George Dykeman

Ernest George “Corky” Dykeman, 59, of Cortland, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, in Farmington Hills, MI.

Corky was born in Cortland, NY on December 7, 1954, the son of the late Walter and Louise Bishop Dykeman.  A longtime resident of the area, he was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers.  He had worked at Intertech for 33 years before beginning employment as a Sr. Regulations Engineer with North American Lighting in Farmington Hills, MI.  Corky was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the NY Yankees and the NY Giants and also following local Cortland County high school sports.  Most important to Corky was his family.  A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Miller Dykeman, and his children, Sarah (Douglas Williams) Young of Tuscaloosa, AL and Luke (Lynn) Young of Erie, PA.  He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Jena and Devon Young of Erie, PA; a brother-in-law, Charles Yager of Pitcher; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his siblings, Bruce and David Dykeman, Darlene Yager, and Dianne Roher.

Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. with Fred M.S. Downs officiating.  Burial will be in Pitcher Cemetery.  The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Corky may be directed to the Cortland City Youth Bureau, 35 Port Watson St., Cortland, NY 13045.

Dear Family of Corky Dykeman, I used to know Corky when he was with Intertek which we provided with a goniophotometer System in 2005 for the lighting department which he was in charge of. I actually was "googling" his name in order to find out where he might be now and found this memorial page and was quite shocked he passed away that early. Although you suffered this terrible loss already 4 years ago, I would like to express my deepest sympathy. Corky will be remembered also here in Germany as a great engineers and really wonderful Person.

Dear Family,
Today is Nov. 11, I just learned of Corky's death. I was Corky's forth grade teacher, he was in the first class I taught. Each child in that class was very special to me, I remember Corky fondly. About five or six years ago I met him at a graduation party in Marathon, it was a real treat for me to sit and visit with him to catch up with what had been happening in his life.
Know that I send heart felt prayers and condolences to all of you who grieve the loss of such a beautiful person that beauty was there even at the time he was just a young boy.
May the memories you cherish help in some way the loss you know at this time. In God's love, Jo

Mary, and family,

I'm so sorry for your loss.  Growing up in Cincy, I knew of him, but did not get to really know him until we worked together at ETL/Intertek.  Corky was a friend, mentor, and truly great guy.  He will be deeply missed by all.

Corky was a good friend and co worker and will be missed by many....I will never forget him showing up at football and basketball games to cheer for my son (always said when my son becomes famous he wanted to be his agent lol) and always had nice things to say about my kids...The fact he wouldnt share his ho hos or pinwheel cookies was kind of sad to me, but ....its never good bye only see you later, until we meet again....
