Esther M. Nelson

Esther H. (Rosenkrans) Nelson, 90, of McDonough, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 5, 2021, at her home.

Born in Hallstead, PA, on April 7, 1930, Esther was the daughter of the late Harvey and Anna Crandall Rosenkrans.  A longtime resident of the area, she was a member of the German Baptist Church.  She was a former member of the McDonough Fire Department Auxiliary and McDonough American Legion Post 1163 Auxiliary.  In her spare time, she enjoyed playing pitch, 31, and Frackle with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Richard H. (Susan) Nelson, Jr. of Gillet, PA, Mary Ann Hodge of McDonough, Linda Brewer of Norwich, and Cindy Lou Wilcox of Hamilton.  She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Tracy Lynn Thompson of SC, Carrie Deuel of FL, Nicole Moore of N. Norwich, David Brewer, Jr. of N. Norwich, Erin Bennett of Hamilton, Brandy Wilcox of Syracuse, Joshua Wilcox of Hamilton, Tyler Nelson of Binghamton,  and Kaitlyn Nelson of PA; 22 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Lawrence of Montrose, PA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Richard H. Nelson, Sr., on December 18, 2011, and nine siblings.

Memorial services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. with Fred M.S. Downs officiating.  Burial will be in Westview Cemetery, German.  The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until the start of the service at 1:30 p.m.  NY State Covid-19 guidelines will be followed.  Masks must be worn and social distancing will be in place.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Esther may be directed to the McDonough American Legion Post 1163, 1136 County Road 5, McDonough, NY 13801 or the McDonough Fire Department, P.O.
