Evelyn Oros

Evelyn (French) Oros, 85, of Cortland, NY and formerly of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2010, at her home.

Mrs. Oros was born in Greene, NY on June 24, 1924, a daughter of the late Stewart and Flossie Ellis French. A longtime resident of this area, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cincinnatus. During her younger years, she was employed at Smith Corona and also worked at the Cresent Corset Company. On January 30, 1943, she married Julius G. Oros, Jr. who predeceased her on January 7, 2010. She worked side by side with her husband on the Oros Farm for several years until their retirement from farming.

She is survived by her children, Carl (Joyce) Oros, of Sarasota, FL, Jimmy (Cheryl) Oros of Cortland, Brenda (Bryan) Houck of Cortland, and Jeremy (Kathleen) Oros of E. Freetown. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Phillip Barry, Kelly Geiger, Todd Talada, Rebecca Sealy, Gemma Gibbons, Erica Jones, Jessica Houck, Kaitlin Houck, Joshua Houck, Abigal Oros, Julius Oros, and Kevin Oros; her brothers-in-laws, George Ashcraft of Plymouth and Kenneth Stein of Preston; sister-in-law, Judy French; several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and her beloved canine companion, Samantha.

In addition to her husband of 67 years, she was predeceased by her siblings, Howard French, Lloyd French, Aaron French, Charles French, Laverne French, Ileana Ashcraft, Marylea Huttleston, Marian Landers, Shirley French, Betty Stein, and Lucille Strough; and a great-granddaugther, Destiny Talada.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, with her pastor, Reverend David Perrott officiating. Burial will be in Pitcher Cemetery at a later date.
