George S. Van Dee, Jr.

George S. Van Dee, Jr., 81, of Cuyler, NY, passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse, NY.

Born in Cuyler, NY, George was a son of the late George and Esther Lynch Van Dee.  He was a member of the Cuyler Methodist Church and served as a youth church leader.  He retired from the NYS DOT after several years of service.  He was a member of the Cuyler Fire Department and served as a fire commissioner for the Town of Cuyler.  He also served as a trustee for the Cuyler Cemetery Association, Dog Warden and Dog Enumerator for the Town of Cuyler, and a former member of the Cortland County Democratic Committee.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Betty Van Dee; and his children, Richard (Carol) of Florida, George (Ruth) of Sandwich, IL, Gary (Denise) of South Carolina, Roxanne (Larry) of Homer, Mary (Gary) of Pitcher, Marilyn of Cortland, Linda of Cortland, John (Lisa) of Homer, Jody (Julie) of Cuyler, and Samuel (Erin) of Kirkville.  He also leaves behind a brother, Ronald (Wilma) of Cortland; sisters, Georgia of Medina, Beatrice (Arthur) of Tripoli, and Betty of Utica; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his children, Charlie, Katherine, Tracy, and Carol; a brother, Robert; a sister, Jenny “Corky”; and a grandson, Gordon.

Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY on Saturday, August 18, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Merwin Greene officiating.  Burial will be in Cuyler Cemetery.  The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the service at 1:00 p.m.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of George may be directed to the Cuyler Cemetery Association, c/o Jeanine Denkenberger, 1630 Cortland Street, Apt. 109, DeRuyter, NY 13052.
