Helen I. Calkins

Helen I. Calkins, 98, formerly of Willet, NY, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014, at the Cortland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Home.

Born in Willet, NY on March 16, 1916, Mrs. Calkins was the daughter of the late Earl and Grace Greene.  A lifelong resident of this area, she was a member of the Willet United Methodist Church and also attended the United Presbyterian Church of Cincinnatus.  A loving mother and grandmother, she enjoyed reading and crocheting.

She is survived by her daughters, Sally (Howard “Krunch”) Randall of Cortland and Joanne (Gerald) Monahan of Homosassa, FL.  She also leaves behind a sister, Marge Murphy of Montrose, PA; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Francis Calkins, in 1998; a daughter, Nancy Boyce; a grandson, Jared Blanchard; and several brothers and sisters.

A graveside ceremony will be held at the Willet Cemetery on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. with Fred M.S. Downs officiating.  There will be no prior calling hours or funeral service.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Calkins may be directed to the United Presbyterian Church of Cincinnatus, 5695 Deer Path Lane, Cincinnatus, NY 13040.
