Hermione L. Porter

Hermione L. Porter, 70, of Whitney Point, NY, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2011, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, following a brief illness.

Mrs. Porter was born in Johnson City on June 14, 1941, a daughter of the late Bruce Capron and Norma Lynch Batting. A longtime resident of this area, she was a member of the Lisle Congregational Church. On October 5, 1963, she married Raymond Porter and together they raised three sons. Prior to her retirement in 2007, she was employed by the Workforce of NY in Binghamton. She also worked as the mall office manager at the Pyramid Mall in Ithaca. A loving mother and grandmother, she will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Raymond Porter, of Whitney Point; a son, Robert Porter of Elmira and a son and his wife, Jason and Nina Porter of Apalachin. She also leaves behind her granddaughters, Amber, and her husband, Jeremy, Katie, Marissa, Seana, and Niki; a grandson, Chris; and great-grandsons, Kaden, Noah, and Seth; her stepfather, Donald Batting of Cortland; her stepmother, Gloria Capron of Lisle; a brother and his wife, Kenneth and Norine Batting, of Cohoes; a sister, Roberta Batting of Cortland; a stepsister and her husband, Dawn and Gary Conboy of Virginia; and numerous other family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her oldest son, Randall Porter, on January 30, 2009.

A memorial service will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend William Haynes officiating. There will be no prior calling hours. Burial will be in Lisle Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Porter may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 6725 Lyons St., E. Syracuse, NY 13057.
