He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Elizabeth Locke Comfort; and sons, Harold (Diane) Comfort and Malcolm Comfort, all of S. Otselic.  He also leaves behind an adopted daughter, Kathy Stevens, of Cortland; grandchildren, Olin, Erie, Emily, and Jessica Comfort; brothers, Howard “Crunch” Comfort of Cortland and Dale (Melody) Comfort of Altadena, CA; a sister, Delia “Deedee” Walberger of Phoenix; a special nephew, Ken Comfort of Bath, NC; and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service to be held at 6:30 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at the South Otselic United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Carl Johnson officiating.  Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery at a later date.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Hugh may be directed to the S. Guestbook

I was devastated to hear of Hugh's passing. He was a wonderful cousin and person with whom I had far to little time, mostly when we were young and then recently at reunions, I will miss him more than you can imagine, such wonderful memories of days on his family's farm with him and Howard and dale and deeded. My grandfather built their barn on the farm. I am so overcome by all that he did for the community and all those children but not surprised in least. There is a hole in my life that no one can replace. Still thinking of him and praying for Mary and the kids. Have lost my address book with her address and dales and deeded. Wish I could find it so I could be in touch. Wish I could have come to the service......... Still thinking about that. Would love to hear from Mary and dale and melody. We were too far apart for too long. I have picture of mike and Hugh and me on my refrigerator, so glad I have that whenever I go past the refrigerator. My address is 1975 Woodbury rd., Bethlehem, pa 18017 or jce2@lehigh.edu. I would especially like to know about Kenneth comfort, who was named for my dad? Who was a wonderful man, like all the Comforts, I didn't know I had a cousin I presume named for Dad, must be Dad's connection with the inland waterway he often talked about. Probably no one will ever see this, too late unless they come back for the year but it is too late for that, I have not been well. Much love and prayers to you all. Jeaniene

Hugh Comfort filled our days with laughter working together at Simmons Precision in Norwich until he retired. I never met a man that could remember more jokes than Hugh. I still remember some of them today. So many good memories. I loved to hear the fishing stories of going to Canada. The antics of his little grandson. He was a kind and hard working man. Rest Now my friend and I will hold on to the memories we shared!
