Janet M. Ervin

Janet M. (Young) Ervin, 73, of Cortland, NY, and formerly of Taylor, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2020, at Hospicare, Ithaca, NY, while surrounded by her family.

Janet was born in Cortland, NY, on October 14, 1946, the daughter of the late Carl and Lillian Holtmart Young.  A lifelong resident of this area, she was a 1964 graduate of Cincinnatus Central School.  Prior to her retirement, she had been employed at Cortland Ford for many years.  She had also worked at Cortland Corset and Gladding Corporation.  In her spare time, she enjoyed travelling with family and friends, along with knitting, sewing, completing puzzles, and making fudge.  She loved her family dearly and spent many hours with her four sisters and close friends.

She is survived by her sons, James (Terra) Ervin of Syracuse, and John (Michele) Ervin of Willet.  She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Kaylie (Matthew) Eaton, Ashlie (Carter Towsley), Collin, Alex, and Kathryn Ervin; her great-grandchildren, Lincoln Towsley and Sawyer Eaton; sisters, Shirley (William) Coffin of Tully, Doris Whitmore of Smithville, Joan Root of Marathon, and Joyce (Carl) Oros of FL; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Saturday, February 22, 2020, at 4:00 p.m. with Fred M.S. Downs officiating.  Burial will be in Willet Cemetery at a later date.  The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the start of the service at 4:00 p.m.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Janet may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Services, 11 Kennedy Parkway, Cortland, NY 13045.
