Joe W. Fox

Joe W. Fox, 72, of Cortland, NY, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Upstate University Hospital, while surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle from serious burns he sustained from an accident on April 9, 2016, at his home.

Joe was born in Cincinnatus, NY, on November 25, 1943, the son of the late Clinton and Iva Fox.  He grew up on the family farm in Texas Valley, NY.  He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 545 for 49 years and worked as a heavy equipment operator and served as a master mechanic.  Joe enjoyed camping, four-wheeling, and working on projects in his garage.  He loved his family and cherished spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sheila, and his children, Valerie (John) Fox, David (Denise) Fox, Kim (Ronald) Fuller, Linda (Will) Fox, Clinton (Jessica) Fox, and Addie (Clifford) Fox; 12 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.  He also leaves behind his brothers, Jay, Earl (Donna), Dan, and Gaius; his sisters, Beulah (Lloyd) Christopher and Wanda Harvey; his sisters-in-law, Sharon and Debbie Fox; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Harold, Gordon, Morris, and Ira; and his sisters, Barbara Stanley, Dorothy, and Sharon.

The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at the Grace Christian Fellowship Church, Cortland, NY, on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Nick Dunn officiating.  Burial will be in Taylor Rural Cemetery.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Joe may be directed to the Clark Burn Center, University Hospital, 750 E. Adams Street, Syracuse, NY 13210.

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:  for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”  Psalm 23:4
