His main profession was a highway superintendent, working many years with Green Island Construction/Ketco out of Latham, NY. After receiving a gift of life kidney, he left his home after 69 years to share five years with his daughter and family. In his spare time, he enjoyed NASCAR, cooking, and telling stories.

John will be coming home to rest at a graveside memorial at Taylor Rural Cemetery on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at 11:00 am. with Fred M.S. Downs officiating. Expressions of sympathy in memory of John may be directed to the Cincinnatus Emergency Squad, c/o Elaine Oros, 5771 McFarlane Road, Cincinnatus, NY 13040.
We had many great times with John and Penny. I'll never forget John cooking a sirloin steak on the grill when he and Penny lived upstairs over the barber shop, and we lived out back. I'd never eaten a steak before and I thought that was the best thing I'd ever tasted in my life.
John was always up for fun, and always there to help when you needed a hand. I remember all the years of him volunteering on the emergency squad. You could count on John in a time of need. I haven't seen him in years, but know he will be missed. I will always remember him with fond memories. R.I.P. John. My condolences to Penny and Pam.

Had many laughs with John. I will remember him as a friend of my oldest brother who took care to help me through Mike's death. He became my friend. I also enjoyed the many school bus rides across the old Willet bridge. So scary, we had to laugh. RIP my friend.
