John R. Maricle, 75, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, April 19, 2026, while surrounded by his family.
John was born in Norwich, NY on February 28, 1951, the son of the late Reno and Gladys Westover Maricle. A 1969 graduate of Cincinnatus Central School, his life journey was marked by dedication, hard work, and a deep connection to his community.
John began his professional life as a self-employed contractor and operator of a dairy farm in Cincinnatus, demonstrating his strong work ethic and commitment to rural life. Later, he retired from Cincinnatus Central School, where he served faithfully as a school bus driver for several years. His role was more than just a job; it was a way for him to contribute to the safety and well-being of the local children and families he cared about deeply.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, John found joy in his hobbies and interests. He was passionate about showing quarter horses, a pursuit that reflected his love for animals and the outdoors. Additionally, he enjoyed playing pitch, a card game that brought him camaraderie and relaxation. An avid deer hunter, John embraced the challenges and tranquility of the wilderness, a pastime that resonated with his lifelong connection to the land.
John’s personal life was rich with love and family ties. He shared 55 years of marriage with his beloved wife, JoAnn Beckwith Maricle. Together, they nurtured a close-knit family. John is survived by his son, Jeffrey Maricle, and his daughters, Lori (Jonathan McKee) Mudge and LeAnn (Bob) Hemming, all of Cincinnatus. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren—Dayton, Daulton, Jayda, and Aubrey—and his great-grandchildren—Jettson, Colter, and Emery—who were sources of immense pride and joy to him. John's sister, Beattie (John) Smith of Cincinnatus, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins, also survive him, each carrying forward the memories and stories of his life.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Glaude.
Friends are invited to join the family for a graveside service at the Taylor Rural Cemetery on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of John may be directed to Hospice & Palliative Care of Chenango County, 33-39 Court Street, Norwich, NY 13815 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
John’s life was a testament to his enduring values of family, community, and a profound respect for the natural world. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit and the warmth of his character will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched. His peaceful passing is a comfort to his family, who will honor his memory with love and gratitude for the many years he shared with them.
