John L. Rathbone

John L. Rathbone, 85, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021, at the Crown Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Cortland, NY.

Born in Pharsalia, NY, on December 15, 1935, John was the son of the late Leslie and Mildred Woolsey Rathbone. A lifelong resident of the area, he drove school bus for the Cincinnatus Central School for 15 years and also drove for Stafford Chevrolet for 15 years. He worked as an electrician in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1955 to 1959, and then for Eastern Airlines, Mohawk Airlines, Monarch Machine and Tool, and Maxson International, before becoming a self-employed electrician.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Norma Closson Rathbone; and his children, Shawn (Jamie) Rathbone of Auburn, Sandra (Michael) Randall of Cincinnatus, Maryanne (Gray) Fredrick of Oak Ridge, TN, and Amy (Jason) Morgan of Glen Aubry. He also leaves behind a brother, Clyde (Haruko) Rathbone of Las Vegas, NV; a sister, Lois (Richard) Dodge of Cincinnatus; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a special grandson, Rhion Rathbone, in 2015; and sisters, Joan Livingston and Leslie Dodge.

A memorial service for John will be held at the United Presbyterian Church of Cincinnatus, on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor George Carruth officiating.
