Joyce Louise Monroe

Joyce Louise Brown Monroe, 64, of Norwich, NY, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at her home, while surrounded by her family.

Joyce was born in Norwich, NY, on August 24, 1952, the daughter of the late Marris and Bessie Guinn Brown.  She grew up in Cincinnatus and attended Cincinnatus Central School and DCMO BOCES where she earned her CNA certification.  She had worked various jobs, including Sherwood Medical, Gladding Corp., Chenango Memorial Hospital, and the job she loved the most at the NYS Veteran’s Home at Oxford.  She also delivered newspapers for the Press and Sun, the Evening Sun, and the Norwich Pennysaver for many years.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Ward Monroe, of Norwich; a son, Brooks (Kandi) Monroe of Otselic; a daughter, Eva (Brett) Crandall of Norwich; and the lights of her life, her grandchildren, Taylor (Ian) Tuttle of Edwards AFB, CA, Adam (Haillie) Monroe of Otselic, Amber (Carmine) Saladino of Coco Beach, FL, Wyatt Ashcraft of Norwich; and Alexis Crandall of Norwich.  She was delighted to become a great-grandmother this last year to Orion Tuttle of CA.  She also leaves behind her sisters, Judy (James) Rice of Cincinnatus, Kellie (BJ) Bishop of S. Otselic, and Leslie (Butch) Shaver of Norwich; her brothers, Jerry (Lori) Brown of Raleigh, NC, Jay (Kathy) Brown of Norwich, Ira Neil (Debbie) Brown of S. Plymouth, and Kenneth Brown of Cincinnatus; many nieces and nephews, to whom she was a second “Mom,” aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Thursday, June 1, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Jeremy Stopford officiating.  The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Joyce may be sent to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes Street, Norwich, NY 13815.
