Joyce M. Pittsley, 85, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at the Guthrie Cortland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Cortland, NY, while surrounded by her family.
Born in Cortland, NY, Joyce was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Alice Simpson Maricle. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a graduate of Cincinnatus Central School. For over 37 years, she drove school bus for the Cincinnatus Central School and also served as a rural mail carrier for 20 plus years. Joyce was a member of the Cincinnatus Emergency Squad. Her true passion was horses and chasing after her kids and grandkids.
She is survived by her sons, Vance Pittsley of Elgin, SC, Virgil Pittsley of Elgin, SC, Veryl (Marie) Pittsley of Norwich, and Valden Pittsley of McDonough. She also leaves behind a sister, Janet Maricle of South Carolina; a daughter-in-law, Pat Pittsley of Cincinnatus; and a sister-in-law, Betty Stokes of South Carolina; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; and close friends Janice and Stephanie.
In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband, Walt Pittsley, in 1980; a son, Vern Pittsley in 2010; and a brother, Norman Maricle.
Memorial services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Peter Bush officiating. Burial will be in Wayside Rest Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the service at 1:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Joyce may be directed to the Cincinnatus Emergency Squad, c/o Jeff Fox, P.O.
