Kathleen T. Dutton

Kathleen “Katie” Dutton, 87, of South Otselic, NY, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, May 20, 2023.  In her final hours she told her family, “I want to see Jesus.”  We are certain she was welcomed into glory by her beloved husband, Jim, and her twin sister, Claire.

She is survived by her five children, Dixie (John) Kahle of Greensboro, NC, Deb Young of Stokesdale,  NC, Dan (Patty) Dutton of South Otselic, Doug Dutton and Jim Dutton, both of Greensboro, NC.  Her children were sources of great joy and Katie was blessed with seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

It is with deep gratitude that we mention the ongoing care that both of our parents received from our brother, Dan, and his amazing wife, Patty.  From meal preparation to transportation to yard maintenance, they have dedicated six years to being more than just neighbors.

In addition, the last few months of our mom’s life were made easier by the presence of our sister, Dixie as the fulltime caregiver; hospice as the skilled team who walked with us every step of the way; and our cousins, Mark and Kim.  It was their expertise that gave us the courage to bring mom home for her final days.

We also want to thank the South Otselic Fire Department/EMS for their support in the past weeks.

Katie was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of South Otselic and was an avid reader of many bibles and study guides.  We considered her to be a “prayer warrior”, along with our father.  Friends frequently asked us to bring Katie their prayer requests and she would gladly enter their names in her prayer journals.  She also enjoyed a ministry of writing note cards to those who needed encouragement, a kind word, or support.  She was always a quilter, a voracious reader, and uncommonly brilliant.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday, May 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, with her pastor, Reverend Jim Moore officiating.  There will be no prior calling hours.  Burial in Valley View Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the First Baptist Church of South Otselic, 130 County Road 13, South Otselic, NY 13155 or the South Otselic Fire Department/EMS, 1577 State Route 26, South Otselic, NY 13155.
