Kathryn L. Elwood

Kathryn L. (Henry) Elwood, 96, of Cincinnatus (Taylor), NY, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 31, 2020, while surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Cuyler, NY, on May 3, 1924, Kathryn was the daughter of the late Morrel and Rada (Lambert) Henry.  A lifetime resident of the area, she attended the Pitcher Federated Church.  She retired from the Cincinnatus Central School in 1990 where she had worked for many years as a bus driver and cafeteria worker.  She was a member of the Taylor Grange and the Taylor Home Bureau and had recently received her 75-year membership certificate from the Cuyler Grange.  She had previously served as chairperson of the Taylor Planning Board and had also served on the Cortland County Election Board.

She is survived by her children, Sharon (Roy) Eltz of Taylor; Wayne “Chip” Elwood of Taylor; and Peggy (Louis) Hammond of Egan, MN.  She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Mark (Mary) Eltz, Lauri (Jeff) Smith, Bobbie (Mike) Janeski, Kathryn (Zach) Kauffman, and Terry Elwood; her great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Carson, Dylan, Brooke, Alexandra, Zack, Oliver, and Mikaylynn; a great-great-granddaughter, Lottie; sister, Nellie Barber of Cortland; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Wayne Elwood, on July 27, 2006.

The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, November 6, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Matthew Smith officiating.  NY State Covid-19 guidelines will be followed.  Masks must be worn and social distancing will be in place.  Burial will be in Taylor Rural Cemetery.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Kathryn may be directed to Cincinnatus Emergency Squad, c/o Elaine Oros, 5771 McFarlane Road, Cincinnatus, NY 13040.
