L. Dewey Eccleston, 86, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at his daughter’s home in Cincinnatus.
Dewey was born in Oxford, NY on March 14, 1926, a son of the late Leon and Irene Rackett Eccleston. A longtime resident of this area, he proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII where he was stationed in Germany and France. He retired from Brewer-Tichnor in 1991 after several years of service. Upon his retirement, he worked for the Cortland County Highway Department until 1995. He also served as the Taylor Town Supervisor for several years and was a former member of the Knickerbocker American Legion Post #596. Dewey was an avid reader who enjoyed fishing and hunting, but his specialty was grouse hunting.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Phyllis Potter Eccleston; and his children, Sandra (Michael) Hudak of MN, D. Bradley (Penni) Eccleston, Mitchell (Linda) Eccleston, Gerald (Joan Coombs) Eccleston, Mark (Jody) Eccleston, and Tammy (Scott) Pierce, all of Cincinnatus. He also leaves behind his brothers, Robert (Mary) Eccleston of Cincinnatus and Llewelyn (Sue) Eccleston of Albany; a sister, Elsie Standard of Fulton; 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by a son, Donald, in 2006, and a daughter, April, in 1963.
