LuAnn Beebe

May 28, 1960 — April 1, 2023

Richford, NY

LuAnn Beebe, 62, passed away at her home in Richford, NY, on Saturday April 1, 2023 surrounded by her family. LuAnn was born May 28, 1960, to Wallace and Beverly DeGroat of Richford, NY. She was the third of four children and was heartbroken when her only brother passed away at the age of 19. She cared deeply about family and keeping traditions alive and became the glue that kept the family together after her parents passed away.

LuAnn was a strong woman who put her family above all else. She married George “Hoby” Beebe in 1982 and had 2 boys: Mark in 1986 and Kevin in 1988. LuAnn was also like a mother to many of the kids that her boys grew up with. Hoby and LuAnn found some of their best friends in the parents of their kids’ friends, and those same best friends remained there for them in the weeks leading up to LuAnn’s passing. They are more like family than friends, and no one will ever convince them differently.

LuAnn had a love-hate relationship with the NY Giants, and complaining about football was one of her favorite pastimes. She lived for watching her grandkids play sports and for buggy riding with her best friends. Baking for others was something she loved simply because it brought joy to others.

LuAnn spent much of her free time mowing the Speedsville Cemetery, helping with Chicken BBQs, and enjoying her family and friends out back at Wimpy’s Campground. She began to really enjoy her time in the camper, exploring the Northeast with Hoby. LuAnn adored her work-family from the Library Annex at Cornell, where she worked for 23 years. She retired just last year and loved retirement. She loved the extra time spent with her family, but could be found hiding in the camper with her daughter-in-law when Hoby drove her nuts.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 22nd at St. John’s Episcopal Church at 1504 Seventy-Six Rd., Berkshire, NY. The family would also like to extend an invitation to join them at a Celebration of Life Gathering at 1:00 p.m. at the Speedsville Community Hall, 28 Speedsville Commons, Berkshire, NY. The Service will be officiated by Hoby and LuAnn’s close family friend, Father Richard Schaal. A private burial will take place at a later date.

LuAnn is predeceased by her parents Wallace and Beverly DeGroat, and brother Kevin DeGroat. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, George “Hoby” Beebe; sons Mark (Sandra) and Kevin (Crystal); grandchildren Nathaniel, Kimberleigh, Colt, Cooper, and Hunter; sisters Cheryl (John) Hill and Denise Seymour, and many close friends and extended family members.

LuAnn found the purest joy out of helping others every day of her life. Even on her last day, she was found humming “You Are My Sunshine” to bring joy to her family. Her family asks that anyone reading this do something to bring joy to someone else in memory of her. As LuAnn would have wished, please consider donating to the Speedsville Cemetery Association in lieu of flowers.
