Lynn H. Mowers

Lynn H. Mowers, 79, of DeRuyter, NY, passed away after a brief illness on Friday, January 21, 2022, at his home, while surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Lincklaen, NY, on January 6, 1943, Lynn was the son of the late Donald and Vernetta Upham Mowers. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a 1962 graduate of DeRuyter High School. He was a member of the United Church of DeRuyter. Lynn proudly served in the U.S. Army and the Vietnam Conflict. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post #973, South Otselic. Lynn was a general contractor for many years, building or working on several barns, buildings and homes throughout the surrounding towns. Many of his customers turned into lifelong friends. He retired from Dekatherm, Inc. in Auburn, NY, after several years of service. Lynn was a devoted son, brother, husband, father and grandfather . He enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing and camping but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was extremely proud of his 12 grandchildren. Lynn was a well-respected member of the community and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to farmers, friends and neighbors.

He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Kathleen Harris Mowers; and his children, Steven (Heather Laws) Mowers of Walworth, Kenneth Mowers of DeRuyter, Julie (Peter) Sandford of Virginia, Nichele (Johnathan) Marshall of Sheds, and Shannon (Steven) Forrest of South Otselic. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Dennis Mowers, Lauren (Tyler) Tepedino, Garrett Mowers, Jacob (Chelsie) Sandford, Jennifer (Jose) Fuentes, Timothy (Rachel) Sandford, Abigail, Cash, Annabelle and Colt Marshall, Graycee and Ryder Forrest; sisters, Norma (William) Mierke of DeRuyter, Marjory (Ronald) Friedman of Belleview, FL, and Delores (Craig Cook) Mowers of DeRuyter; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Alice Knight Mowers; and a brother, Aaron Mowers.

The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Thursday, January 27, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorial services will be held at the United Church of DeRuyter, on Friday, January 28, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Carl Johnson officiating. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Lynn may be directed to the DeRuyter Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 442, DeRuyter, NY 13052.
