Marie A. Peri

June 4, 1940 — July 23, 2022

Marie A. (Herel) Peri, 82, of Taylor, NY, a two-time breast cancer survivor, passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s on Saturday, July 23, 2022, with her family at her side.

Marie was born in Queens, NY, on June 4, 1940, the daughter of the late Albert and Marie Krejcik Herel.  She was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and the Church Council.  She married Joseph Peri in Deer Park, Long Island, NY, on November 12, 1960.  For several years she owned and operated Peri’s Posies in Taylor, NY, where her floral arrangements were not just arrangements but exhibited her artistic nature as each had to be a floral work of art before going out the door.  She was active in her community, starting with serving as a Chief Inspector for the Suffolk County Board of Elections, Cub Scout den mother, Brownie troop mother, Cortland Microd Club scorer, Taylor Town Clerk and tax collector.  Some of her favorite times were spending time with her family and buying 33 acres on Union Valley Road on her 33rd birthday which ultimately led to the family moving from Long Island to rural Taylor, NY.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Joseph Peri; and her children, Joseph A. (Peg) Peri of Taylor, Ann Marie (Peri) Riggall of Morrisville, and William (Kelley) Peri of Marathon.  She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Lindsay, Robert, Shawn, Joseph, Nicholas, and Troy; her great-grandchildren, Hartley, Duke, Corbin, and Jack; nieces, Suzanne and Dawn; and a brother-in-law, Anthony Peri of California.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Ninetta Peri and brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Marilyn Herel.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church at the convenience of the family.  Burial will be in Taylor Rural Cemetery.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Marie may be directed to Hospice and Palliative Care Services, 11 Kennedy Parkway, Cortland, NY 13045 or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue – 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
