Marion S. Deaver

August 18, 1920 — May 28, 2011

Marion S. Deaver, 90, formerly of S. Otselic, NY and most recently a resident of the Masonic Care Community, Utica, NY, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital, Utica, NY.

Mrs. Deaver was born in Detroit, MI on August 18, 1920, a daughter of the late Frank and Laura Moore Stone. She was a 1938 graduate of Lafayette High School in Buffalo and a 1939 graduate of Buffalo Beauty School. On June 25, 1941, she married James Deaver in Buffalo, NY and soon after worked in Southern California installing life support systems in B25 aircraft while her husband served as a Marine in the South Pacific. In 1977 she received her BS Degree in Education from SUNY Oswego and taught Cosmetology at BOCES in Norwich where she also served as a Committee Member. She was a member of the Beaver Meadow Christian Church, the National Cosmetology Association, the NYS Cosmetology Association and Zonta Club of Norwich. In her spare time, she would serve as a tutor for Literacy Volunteers of Chenango County.

She is survived by her son, James T. (Kathleen) Deaver, Jr. of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, and a daughter, Laurelyn (Douglas) Mayen of Fishkill, NY. She also leaves behind three grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, James T. Deaver, Sr., on May 12, 2004.

A graveside service for Mr. & Mrs. Deaver will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at the Corwin Cemetery, Newfane, NY. Those who wish to remember Mrs. Deaver with a donation are kindly asked to consider the Beaver Meadow Christian Church, 112 Church Street, Plymouth, NY 13832.
