Marjorie B. Davis

Marjorie B. (Hine) Davis, 96, of Homer, NY, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2016, at Cortland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Cortland, NY.

Born in Akron, OH, on August 24, 1920, Mrs. Davis was the daughter of the late Lewis and Lucile Jenks Hine.  A resident of New York State since 1930, she was a 1936 graduate of Cincinnatus Central School and a graduate of Central City Business Institute.  For seven years, she worked as a secretary to the CCS principal.  On December 24, 1939, she married Ralph Davis and moved to Homer in 1944.  She was a member of the Homer United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for 30 years and also taught Sunday School and served as the church secretary for two years.  In her spare time, she volunteered as a 4-H leader.

She is survived by her children, Jerry (Marilyn) Davis of Clayton, Judy (Donald) Johnson of Cortland, Barbara (Richard) VanDusen of Homer, and Jon Davis of Elmira.  She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Davis, on October 3, 2002; a grandson, Peter Jay VanDusen; a granddaughter, Kelly Sue Davis; a great-granddaughter, Makayla Mae VanDusen; and her brothers, Winston and Robert Hine.

In keeping with her wishes, private graveside services will be held at the Wayside Rest Cemetery, Pharsalia, NY.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Davis may be directed to the Homer United Methodist Church, 16 Cayuga Street, Homer, NY 13077.
