Mary B. (Burk) McCracken, 86, of DeRuyter, NY, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017, at the Cortland Regional Medical Center, Cortland, NY.

Born in Cortland, NY, on July 3, 1931, Mary was the daughter of the late LeRoy Joseph and Nellie Burville Burk.  A lifelong resident of the area, she was a graduate of Marathon Central School and had been employed at Smith-Corona, Inc., prior to its closing.  She had also been employed at Ponderosa Restaurant in Cortland and Labrador Mountain in Truxton.  She enjoyed camping and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Linda Abbatiello, of Cincinnatus, Pat McCracken of GA, Kathy (Jeff) Stevens of Cincinnatus, Steven McCracken of Cortland, Timothy (M.J.) McCracken of Marathon, David (Holly) McCracken of Vestal, and Roxanne Vosburg of Pharsalia.  She also leaves behind her brothers, James (Shirley) Burk of Marathon, and LeRoy Joseph (Kay) Burk of McGraw; 17 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; her long-time companion, Gordon Sutton of DeRuyter; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Eugene McCracken in 1972; a sister, Helen B. Cook; and half-brothers, Erwin “Dutch” Smith and John “Pete” Smith.

The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Friday, July 28, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.   In keeping with Mary's wishes, there will be no funeral service.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mary may be directed to the Cincinnatus Fire Department, c/o Robin Neal, P.O. Box 427, Cincinnatus, NY 13040.
