Melanie Sue Rea

Melanie Sue Hathaway Rea, 50, of Richmond, VA, and formerly of South Otselic, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 31, 2018, at the Henrico Doctor’s Hospital, Henrico, VA, with her family by her side.

Melanie was born in Norwich, NY, on March 5, 1968, the daughter of Charles and Patricia Upham Hathaway.  She was a 1986 graduate of Otselic Valley Central School and later made her home in Virginia.  Melanie worked as a travel consultant for the Virginia office of the Carlson Wagon Lit Travel Agency.

She is survived by her parents, Charles and Patricia Hathaway; and a brother, Jeff (Valerie Kenyon) Hathaway, all of South Otselic.  She also leaves behind a niece, Ashley (D.J.) Millard; nephews, Bradley (Alison) Burke and Christopher (Angela Everhart) Burke; a special friend, Mike White; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, James William Rea III on May 16, 2017.

A memorial service will be held at the South Otselic United Methodist Church on Friday, April 13, 2018, at 4:00 p.m. with Reverend Carl Johnson officiating.  Immediately following the memorial service, friends are invited to join the family at the South Otselic American Legion.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Melanie may be directed to Chenango SPCA, 6160 Co.
