Melissa (Livermore) Hummel, 49, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Health Hospital, Syracuse, NY, with her loving husband by her side.
Melissa was born on May 6, 1976, in Norwich, NY, the daughter of Robert and Joanne Malmquist Livermore. She is remembered as a devoted wife, a caring daughter, and a cherished sister, whose warmth and spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.
Melissa was a proud graduate of Cincinnatus Central School. Throughout her career, she served as a keyboard/office specialist for the Cortland County Probation Department, and she also held the position of attendance aide at the Cincinnatus Central School. Her professional life reflected her dedication and commitment to supporting her community.
Outside of work, Melissa was an enthusiastic Philadelphia Phillies baseball fan. She found joy and adventure in visiting Gettysburg, PA, with her family, embracing both the history and beauty of the sites. Her love for her hobbies provided her with immense happiness and was often a source of connection with those around her.
She leaves behind her loving husband Joseph Hummel, with whom she shared 16 meaningful years of marriage. Melissa is survived by her mother, Joanne Livermore of Cincinnatus; her sister Maria (Michael) Landon of Pine Bush; and her niece Kelly Landon and nephew Michael Landon II, also of Pine Bush. She is further survived by her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Hummel of Taylor; her sisters-in-law, Elizabeth (Shawn) Pittsley of Freeville and several brothers-in-law: Edward Hummel of Honey Brook, PA, Thomas (Patricia) Mulhern of Taylor, and Jason Hummel of Lawrenceville, GA. Close friends Crispian and Amber DeLarm and their children, Tristian and Tailynn of Cincinnatus, held a special place in her heart, as did her numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding her in death was her father, Robert Livermore, who passed away on February 22, 2024.
In keeping with the wishes of the family, there will be no immediate services. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date and time to be announced. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Melissa may be directed to the Cortland County SPCA, 879 McLean Road, Cortland, NY 13045. Arrangements are under the care of the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY.
Melissa Hummel's indomitable spirit, fierce love for her family, and unwavering passion for life will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her. Her memory will live on through the love she shared and the moments she cherished.
