Mildred D. Crandall, 97, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at the Cortland Care Center.

Mrs. Crandall was born in Horton, NY on November 14, 1911. She was one of eight children of the late George W. and Nora Sisson Horton. A resident of this area since 1950, and a resident of the Cortland Care Center for the past five years, she was a member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church, Binghamton. Mildred was an avid bingo player and truly loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie (Dale) Barnhart of Las Vegas, NV and Donna Jean Steele of Cincinnatus. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Kelly Benedicks of Mill Valley, CA, Karen Baumgartner of Westland, MI, Linda Vella of Oakdale, CA, Renee (Patrick) Lee of Sausalito, CA and Dr. David Steele of Chicago, IL; her great-grandchildren, Brooke and Brandon Benedicks, Ryan Baumgartner, Christopher and John Vella, and Makayla and Garrison Lee; a sister, Virginia Haun of Honesdale, PA; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Howard T. Smith and Arthur H. Crandall; a great-grandson, Nicholas Vella, in 1994; brothers, Howard, Leonard and Melvin Horton; sisters, Helen Garrison, Mary Ludington and Marguerite Harris; and a special companion, Robert Dunham, in 1992.

Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY on Sunday, November 30, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. with Fred M.S. Downs officiating. Burial will be in Chenango Valley Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home prior to the funeral service on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mrs. Crandall may be directed to the Cortland Care Center, Whispering Pines Activities Fund, 193 Clinton Ave., Cortland, NY 13045.
