Nancy L. McMaster

Nancy L. (Springer) McMaster, 81, of DeRuyter, NY, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, while surrounded by her loving family.

Nancy was born in Syracuse, NY, on April 11, 1942, the daughter of the late Clarence and Margaret Woolridge Springer.  She attended the United Church of DeRuyter.  She was a graduate of DeRuyter Central School and a graduate of SUNY Delhi majoring in accounting.  Prior to her retirement, she had worked at Cortland Corset, Cazenovia College, Caldor Department Store, the American Red Cross, and Office Max, among other jobs.  Nancy was 57-year member of the DeRuyter Firemen’s Auxiliary; a longtime member and five-year secretary for LAFASNY; member and secretary of LACNY; member of the Madison County Auxiliary and Madison County Firemen’s Association; member of the American Legion Auxiliary; Cortland County Firemen’s Auxiliary; and the DeRuyter Ruritan Association.  She was also a member of the DeRuyter Field Days Committee; the American Red Cross Disaster Team and served as an EMT.  She also served as a volunteer for the Madison County Board of Elections.

She is survived by her children, Paula, of DeRuyter, Stephen and David (Cindy) McMaster, all of South Carolina; her grandchildren, Chelsie (Steven) Stone of Georgetown, Carly McMaster, Eric (Jess) Carlson, and Courtney Carlson, all of South Carolina; her great-grandchildren, Rhiley, Liley, Savanah, Albert, Cameryn, Myla, Wyatt, and Harley.  She also leaves behind her siblings, Robert (Linda) Springer of Tennessee, Terry (Patches) Springer of Arizona, Richard (Lisa) Springer of Louisiana, Thomas (Linda) Springer of DeRuyter, and Kevin (Pam) Springer of South Otselic; her sisters-in-law, Kathy Springer of Louisiana and Dorothy Manwarren of Norwich; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Larry, Ronald, and Michael Springer.

The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Thursday, June 1, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Memorial services will be held at the United Church of DeRuyter on Friday, June 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Vern Groves officiating.  Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Nancy may be directed to DeRuyter Ruritan Association, 2057 Smith Road, DeRuyter, NY 13052.
