Richard A. Fowlston, 71, of Willet, NY, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, NY.
Born on October 17, 1954, in Cortland, NY, Dick’s life was characterized by his deep commitment to family, service, and community.
He dedicated 14 years to the Cincinnatus Central School as a bus driver, where he was known for his kindness to students and families alike. Before this role, he was employed as a truck driver for B&G in Greene, NY, showcasing his hardworking spirit that defined his career. A proud graduate of Cincinnatus Central School in 1972, Dick had a strong connection to his roots and remained an active member of his community throughout his life.
His contributions extended beyond his professional endeavors; he was past chief and a life member of the Willet Fire Department, reflecting his unwavering commitment to public service. Additionally, he served as a 20-year member of the Willet Town Board and was an active participant in the Willet Rod and Gun Club. Dick’s dedication to local initiatives and his passion for the community left a lasting impression on those around him.
Dick’s family was his pride and joy. He cherished his wife, Christy Brown Fowlston, with whom he shared 47 wonderful years. He is survived by his son, Michael (Rachel) Neilson of Homer; daughter, Barbara (Aaron Shippey) Kemp of Willet; and son, Jeffrey (Jessie) Fowlston of Willet. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Eric, Cameron, Kayla, Dylan, Mathew, Austin, Zachary, Brady, Logan, Eli, and Ella, and great-granddaughter, Blaire. He also leaves behind a sister, Sally (Tim) Potter of Willet. Dick’s warmth and wisdom will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Sunday, November 9, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Dick may be directed to the Willet Fire Department, 1407 NYS Route 41, Willet, NY 13863.
