Richard A. Pudney, 77, of Cincinnatus (Taylor), NY, passed away suddenly on Monday, June 15, 2020, at his home.
He was born May 15, 1943 to Robert D. Pudney and L. Christine Smith Pudney in Cincinnatus, NY. He attended Cincinnatus Central Schools graduating in 1961 and went on to CCBI Business School in Syracuse, NY. After working for GLF for a couple of years, Rick joined the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam in 1966-1967 and was honorably discharged in July 1967. Rick married Carolyn R. Olson on January 28, 1967 and entered Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX in September 1967. Kristin L. Pudney was born to Rick and Carolyn on May 25, 1968. After graduating from Texas Tech in December 1970 with a Bachelors degree in Range and Wildlife Management, the family moved to Reno, NV where Rick attended the University of Nevada at Reno and received his Masters Degree in Wildlife Management in August 1972. He joined the Natural Resource Conservation Service (formerly the Soil Conservation Service), USDA and began working in Miles City, MT, where the Samuel E. Pudney, born January 2, 1973, joined the family. After also working in Wibaux and Glasgow, MT, Rick transferred to Yakima, WA as Area Range Conservationist. He completed his career with the NRCS and retired in June 1999. This brought him back to Cincinnatus and the family farm in August 1999.
Rick loved old cars and reading western books. Watching the wildlife around the family home was another great interest. He is survived by his wife Carolyn and daughter Kristin Clements (Dale Clements) of Naches, WA and by brothers Larry Pudney, (Jan King Pudney) of Mesa, AZ and Gregory Pudney of Willis, TX, as well as three step grandsons, three nephews, one niece, four great nephews and four great neices. He is predeceased by his son Sam Pudney, father Robert Pudney and mother L. Christine Harrington.
He will be very missed by his family.
The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Rick may be directed to the Cincinnatus Emergency Squad, c/o Elaine Oros, 5771 McFarlane Road, Cincinnatus, NY 13040.
