Robert H. Rood, 90, of McGraw, NY, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at his home.

Bob was born in Canton, NY, on April 28, 1927, the son of the late Howard and Esther Forbes Rood.  A long-time resident of McGraw, he was a member of the former McGraw Presbyterian Church.  He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1944 to 1946.  He later served as a police officer for the Village of McGraw and then deputy sheriff for the Cortland Co. Sheriff’s Department, retiring in 1986 after a combined service of 25 years in law enforcement.  Bob enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Knickerbocker Country Club.  He was instrumental in starting the Law Day golf outing and, along with Flip Phillips and Sam Depew, started the Men’s Sr. League.  An avid hunter and fisherman, Bob was a member of the McGraw Sportsmen’s Club and was also a former member of the McGraw Lions Club.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathie (Richard) Barnhart of Homer and his grandchildren, Julie (Jim) Johnson of Homer, Michael (Shelley) Barnhart of Marathon, and Jeremy Rood of McGraw; great-grandchildren, Nichole, Victoria, Landon, and Luke; brothers, William (Jan) Rood of Canton and Hugh Rood of Norfolk; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Lois Irene Rood, in 2006, and his son, Steven in 2010.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no prior calling hours or funeral services.  Expressions of sympathy in memory of Bob may be made to the McGraw Sportsmen’s Club, 3154 Ridge Rd., McGraw, NY 13101.
