Ruth E. (Fitch) Rood, 78, of North Pitcher, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at her home.
Born in Homer, NY, on April 26, 1946, Ruth was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Amelia (Diekow) Fitch. Ruth was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cincinnatus. Prior to her retirement, she was employed at Cortland Line Company. She had also previously served as an election poll representative for Chenango County.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Richard Rood; and her children, Vonda (Glenn) Vosburgh of Caneada, and Todd (Diana) Rood of North Pitcher. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Ernest R. (Taylor) Brown, China-Jade (Matthew) Shouse, Brooke Ager, Bethany Prince-Rood, and Ashvil Rood; her great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Myles, Chloe, Maverick, Layla, Liam, and Gyasi; a brother, John Fitch of Elmira; sisters, Alyce Fitch of Elmira, Beverly (Stanley) Ely of Elmira, and Cheryl Pfeifer of Cortland; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Alta Rood; a son, Ashvil Rood; a grandson, Carter Rood; and sisters, Evelyn Fitch and Barbara Howell.
The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Cincinnatus on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with her pastor, Reverend Mark Brown, officiating. Burial will follow at North Pitcher Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Ruth may be directed to the First Baptist Church of Cincinnatus, P.O. Box 220, Cincinnatus, NY 13040.
