Sarah A. Cheney

February 12, 1918 — June 18, 2010

Sarah "Sally" A. Cheney, 92, of Willet, NY, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2010, at the Cortland Care Center, Cortland, NY.

Mrs. Cheney was born in Matamoras, Pennsylvania on February 12, 1918, a daughter of the late Joseph and Zarah Gates Churukian. A caring and giving person, she spent much of her time volunteering for the Salvation Army in Cortland. She attended church whenever she could and enjoyed teaching Sunday School. She was the last surviving child of seven children.

She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Halstrom, of Willet and Faith Cheney of Columbus, OH. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Wendy Davis, Rebecca Halstrom-O'Beirne, Christian Leach, and Paul Leach; her great-grandchildren, Arielle Beckwith, Elijah Davis, and Colleen O'Beirne; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Frank Locher, and her second husband, Stanley Cheney; a son, Frank William Locher, in 1993; a grandson, David "Cricky" Halstrom, in 1975, and a great-granddaughter, Kelsey Brooke Davis, in 1999.

Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Peter Bush officiating. Burial will be in Willet Cemetery. There will be no prior calling hours.
