Shirley G. Simmons

Shirley G. Simmons, 71, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away at her home on Friday, July 29, 2011, while surrounded by her family.

Shirley was born in Carthage, NY on January 23, 1940, a daughter of the late Gerald and Genevieve McPherson Hartle. A longtime resident of this area, she married Harry Simmons, Sr. on September 1, 1958. She had been a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Florida.

She is survived by her husband, Harry Simmons, Sr. of Cincinnatus; children, Jerry (Carol) Simmons of Cortland, Robin (Bob) Theis of Cortland, and Harry (Mary) Simmons, Jr. of Cincinnatus. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Johnny (Abby) Morris, Jr., Amber Simmons and Cody Simmons; a great-grandson, Kincade Morris, four sisters, three brothers, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by four brothers.

Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY on Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Eugene Jensen officiating. Burial will be East Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur, NY at the convenience of the family. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Shirley may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6725 Lyons Street, E. Syracuse, NY 13057.
