Thomas E. Monroe, Sr., 80, of Dryden, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 4, 2022, at his home.
Born in Solon, NY, on February 14, 1942, Tom was the son of the late Edward and Ruth Harris Monroe. He retired from the Cortland County Highway Department in 2000 after 18 years of service. Prior to that, he had served as the Highway Superintendent for the Town of Solon. Tom was a member of the Solon Sportsman Club and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sharon Merihew Monroe; and their children, Lynne (Don) Day of McLean, Thomas (Maureen) Monroe, Jr. of Cortland, and Rick Monroe of Georgia. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Lane Day, Elizabeth (Dustin) Randall, Deanna (Tristen Dewey) Day, Deirdre (Tom Chappell) Monroe, Scott Day, Martin Monroe, and Natalie (Zander Johnson) Day; his great-grandchildren, Sophia and Jacob Randall; brothers, Roger Monroe of Syracuse, Frederick Monroe of Solon, and Jack (Susan) Monroe of Solon; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY, on Saturday, September 17, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. There will be no formal memorial service. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the McGraw Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Tom may be directed to the Solon Sportsman Club, Inc., 4475 Sportsman Club Road, Cincinnatus, NY 13040.
