Vern W. Pittsley, 53, of Cincinnatus, NY, passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2010, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, NY, while surrounded by his family.

Vern was born in Cortland, NY on July 9, 1956, a son of Walter and Joyce Maricle Pittsley. A 1975 graduate of Cincinnatus Central School, for the past ten years he had been employed by the Chenango Co. Highway Dept. Prior to that, he was employed by the Town of German Highway Dept. He was also a member of Knickerbocker Country Club.

In addition to his mother, Joyce Pittsley, of Cincinnatus, he is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Patricia Pittsley; his daughters, Jaclyn Pittsley and Rebecca (Ike) Barrows, all of Cincinnatus; his brothers, Vance Pittsley and Virgil Pittsley, both of South Carolina, Veryl (Marie) Pittsley of S. Otselic and Valden Pittsley of McDonough. He also leaves behind brothers-in-law, Timothy McCarthy of Marathon and Jeff Cornelius of Cortland; and sisters-in-law, Duana McCarthy of Marathon and RaeAnn Cornelius of Marathon; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and lifelong friends Gene Turshman, Bill Sherman, and Matthew Turshman.

He was predeceased by his father in 1980.

Funeral services will be held at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY on Monday, June 14, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. with Fred M.S. Downs officiating. Burial will be in Wayside Rest Cemetery, Pharsalia, at the convenience of the family. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Vern may be directed to the National Kidney Foundation of Central NY, 731 James Street, Suite 200, Syracuse, NY 13203-2040.
