Wayne D. Drake, Sr., 78, of McGraw, NY, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at the Cortland Care Center, Cortland, NY.
Born in Cortland, NY on May 13, 1933, Wayne was a son of the late Wayne W. and Ethel Bailey Drake. He served in the U.S. Army Tank Co. 15th Infantry Regiment during the Korean Conflict. Prior to his retirement, he worked at Wickwire's, Brewer Tichnor, and Gladding Corp. and was a truck driver and owned his own roofing company. Wayne loved fishing, hunting, bowling, and playing cribbage.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kay Monk Drake and six children, Rebecca (Rick) Nowalk of McGraw, Wayne (Michelle) Drake, Jr. of Marathon, Laurie (John) Keegan of McGraw, Stephen (Mary Sue) Drake of Cortland, Valerie Foxx of Syracuse, and Amanda (Bryan) Drake of Greensboro, NC. He also leaves behind two sisters, Sharon Coffin of Melbourne, FL and Dawn Pickerd of Gretna VA; a half brother, Thomas Drake of Freeville; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and a special nephew, Bill Drake of McLean.
Wayne was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Stewart and Albert Drake.
The family will be present to receive friends at the K.L. Sharp Funeral Home, Cincinnatus, NY on Tuesday, August 9, 2011, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at Lower Cincinnatus Cemetery on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. with Fred M.S.
