William A. Latimer, 71, of Solon, NY, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at the Cortland Regional Medical Center, Cortland, NY, while surrounded by his family.
Born in Cortland, NY on September 29, 1941, Bill was a son of the late George and Hazel (Stillwell) Latimer. A lifetime resident of the area, he was a member of the McGraw United Methodist Church. From 1965 to 1967, he proudly served in the U.S. Army. Bill was a graduate of Cortland High School and Dean Jr. College. He retired from SUNY Cortland ACS after a number of years of service and prior to that, owned and operated Latimer’s Men’s Clothing Store in Cortland. He was also a member of the B.P.O.E. #748, Cortland.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Dixie Shufelt Latimer, and a brother, John (Gretchen) Latimer of Chevy Chase, MD. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law, Steven (Gretchen) Shufelt of Cincinnatus; nephews, Andrew and Patrick Latimer, and Lucas Shufelt; a niece, LeiAnna Beckinghausen; great-nephews, Kurtis Shufelt and George Latimer; and great-nieces, Carlee and Lina Beckinghausen.
A memorial service will be held at the United Presbyterian Church of Cincinnatus on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor George Carruth officiating.
